Anke Eilergerhard
The Berlin-based artist Anke Eilergerhard occupies a unique artistic position worldwide with her fantastically absurd silicone sculptures, skillfully balancing between the boundaries of concrete sculpture, abstraction, and figurative sculpture. Her works, presented in numerous museums and international art fairs, immediately catch the eye due to their daring compositions and their tactile, often intensely colored surfaces. Her sensually evocative sculptures impress with a baroque opulence, yet are subject to a conceptual rigor rooted in concrete forms. Her sculptures combine contrasts such as tradition and modernity, industry and craftsmanship, creation and decay, balance and its loss, femininity and masculinity. Perhaps it is precisely this interplay of dualities that makes Anke Eilergerhard's oeuvre so special and simultaneously so difficult to grasp. The material itself is also unusual. She adorns her sculptures with small dabs of silicone, resembling tiny whipped cream peaks.
