Born in 1984, American contemporary artist Dan Alva comes from a Spanish background of fine artists. Based in Miami, Alva takes the classics and reinvents for a modern-day audience. He re-masters the masters if you will, and undoubtedly, it’s alluring work. His bold and unapologetic pieces stand proud, they’re incredibly intricate, they’re meticulous and he combines his figurative visual language with bursts of camouflage and stripes to take it in a contemporary direction. Alva has worked as a creative in advertising for the last 15 years and has work in the MoMA’s permanent film collection.
We spent two minutes with Danny to learn more about his background, his creative inspirations, and recent work he's admired.
As an artist, where he goes by Dan Alva, he spends his time creating fine art pieces and has exhibited his personal work at a number of national and international shows, most notably the prestigious Art Basel fair. A Miami native, Alvarez attended the Art Institute of Miami, where he studied graphic design and advertising.

We talk to the artist to find out what we can expect from CONTEXT 2019.
