Biography
Born in Quebec City in 1974, Yann Normand began his career drawing and painting. Through various experiences, technical elaboration and artistic research, he encountered steel and sculpture, a medium he has been working with for over 12 years. By welding steel to create intricate and complex pieces, he has forged a perfect harmony between materiality and visual dialogue. His work, spanning mediums such as bronze, wood, rubber, mirror, and feathers, consistently demonstrates a coherent relationship between substance and form. However, steel remains central to his creations, with each new collection radiating even greater energy and dynamism.

˝What I evoke in my entire body of work is the ability of humans to rise and rebuild themselves, but, above all, to refuse the alienating fear that breaks the wings of creation."

Normand's techniques breathe life into sculptures, where the energy of the gesture is revealed in the movement of the steel. Drawing inspiration from the balance between strengths, silence, spiritual elements, and then industrial, he strives to create work that is both honest and authentic. These sculptures bear witness to the artist's deep love for the art of sculpting and showcase an impressive scalability in his practice.

Yann Normand's art celebrates the resilience of the human spirit, its capacity to overcome adversity, and its power to create through hope and persistence, all while reflecting the inevitable cycle of life, love, and death. Normand’s works have been exhibited in Canada and the USA, and are part of private collections worldwide.
