Biography

Max Leiva, born on January 17, 1966, in Guatemala, is a renowned sculptor. He studied at the Rafael Rodríguez Padilla National School of Plastic Arts, where he honed his skills in sculpture. During his studies, Leiva had the opportunity to travel to Bangkok, Thailand, on a UNESCO scholarship, where he furthered his sculpting expertise at Silpakorn University. There, he worked with clay and plaster, directly sculpting live models.

After returning from Bangkok, Leiva established a small workshop in his mother's house in 1993. He began teaching and sharing his knowledge with aspiring artists. In 1996, he received his first international commission from the Guatemalan Olympic Committee. The commission was for a sculpture of a Mayan Ball Player, which was installed at the Olympic Academy in Olympia, Greece.

Leiva's talent has taken him to various sculpture symposia worldwide. With the support of companies, he organized the 1st and 2nd International Sculpture Festival called "Guatemala Immortal." He has also participated in collective exhibitions and International Art Fairs in cities like Miami, California, and Colorado.

Throughout his career, Max Leiva has held several solo exhibitions, including "Pernexus" in Guatemala City in 2018, "Synopsis" in Palm Springs, California in 2019, and "Relieves" in Guatemala City in November 2022. He has also created notable public monuments, such as the Monument to Miguel Angel Asturias on Reforma Avenue in Guatemala City in 1999.

Currently, Max Leiva dedicates most of his time to his studio, where he prepares for future exhibitions and works on public and private projects. His artistry continues to captivate audiences with his skilful craftsmanship and compelling sculptures.
