Biography
Thrush Keats Byron Holmes (b 1979) is a self-taught Toronto-based artist. Holmes’s took his middle names from the great Romantic poets, inspired by their grandiosity and emotional intensity. This is typical of his work, which re-examines traditional themes such as still-lifes, landscapes and nudes in irreverent and energetic fashion, using bold colours to create paintings that almost seem to be in motion.
Today Holmes is one of Canada’s top-selling living artists. His public installations can be found in Galeria in the Park in Toronto and at the headquarters of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has had solo exhibitions at PULSE Miami and the Mike Weisse Gallery in New York, and his work can be found in the collections of Elton John’s AIDs Foundation, Sony Music, DreamWorks Studios and DefJam Records.
