Andre Petterson has exhibited in both public and private galleries in Canada and the United States. His current photo-based work focuses on light and movement, a subject matter inspired by the Old Dutch Masters, such as Rembrandt. He explores the 'split second', the film still, one frame, the click of a shutter and the flash of light. His intention is to suggest movement with paint rather than with a subject. He treats the photograph as an object, whether it is an image of a horse, a dancer or a piano, the approach is defusing the static image. From this point, Petterson works to create a dynamic subject, he infuses his work with kinetic energy through brush strokes, drippings, spills, and splatters.
